Vihanti
Vihanti Belt
The
Vihanti Belt is represented predominantly by a mafic-felsic
volcanic complex on the north flank of a large regional gravity
anomaly along the north-western extension of the Kangasjärvi Belt of
Mid-Proterozoic, supra-crustal rocks. A number of zinc-rich VMS
deposits are known, with the Vihanti Mine, which produced a total of
28 Mt grading 5.2% Zn, 9.46% Cu, 0.40% Pb, and 26.6 g/t Ag from
1954 to 1992, being the only producer.
Magnus holds claims
over two zinc deposits hosted by Vihanti type rocks located at
Näsälänperä, 17 km to the east and Kuuhkamo, approximately 3.5 km to
the south of the Vihanti (Lampisaari) Mine.

Kuuhkamo Zinc Deposit
The
Kuuhkamo zinc deposit was discovered in 1984 at a depth of 150 m below
surface within a 1km long airborne magnetic anomaly. Subsequent
drilling (33 holes totalling 12,500m) by both Outokumpu and GTK from
1984 to 2005 have delineated a resource of approximately 150,000
to 250,000 tons grading 4.0% Zn and 15 g/t Ag to a depth of 200m within
a mineralized zone which varies from 0.5 to 20 m thick that has been
traced for over 1 km along strike. The deposit is hosted by the same
sequence of altered felsic volcanics as the main Lampisaari
deposit and is located at the fold nose of a shallow plunging
anticline. |
